SitD's Statement of Solidarity with the Black Community

Black Lives Matter. Shakespeare in the Dark stands with the Black community, those protesting police brutality and systemic racism, and William & Mary’s students of color. Our institution’s history includes many race-based atrocities, and we condemn this past. We cannot move forward without acknowledging this, and we must continue to educate ourselves and make active changes as a predominantly white student organization.

As an organization rooted in community and input from any student who wishes to do so, Shakespeare in the Dark commits to supporting diversity and inclusion.

Today, we also stand with the student organizations who make up the Cooperative Change Fund. The images that you will see along with our post are from them. With them, we are helping to raise money for Campaign Zero and the National Police Accountability Project, two legal organizations working on policy changes to reduce the rate of police violence. More information about them is listed in our donations section below. If you can donate to this project please send any donation you can make, big or small, to @ACS_WM on Venmo. Please make sure to include CCF Donation in your donation title. Shakespeare in the Dark has pledged to make a $300 donation match, so please donate and when you do send us a direct message or reply to this email with a receipt for your Venmo donation for us to match.

Thank you all so much for your support, we are nothing without our members.

Additionally, we have included other resources related to William & Mary and beyond. Please look over them.

Please donate to the organizations below if you can. Additionally, take some time to look at the resources linked below, which specifically examine race in theatre, race in Shakespeare, and race in present-day theatrical productions of Shakespeare.

In solidarity,

SitD Exec
